Like most hyphenated Americans, I straddle two worlds. My dual identity, Iranian by origin and American by birth, is often effortless and natural.
I can switch languages mid-sentence, savor both saffron rice and cheeseburger and relate to Iranian women resisting the mandatory head scarf the same way I do American girlfriends complaining about lack of equal pay.
