Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is reining in conservative forces ahead of the negotiations to resolve the decade-long dispute over the country’s nuclear program. There are further signs of a shift in Iran’s political undercurrents — the latest of which came after the country’s Intelligence Minister, Mahmoud Alavi, paid a 90-minute visit to the Kayhan newspaper. Kayhan’s editor, Hossein Shariatmadari, a staunch conservative, is appointed directly by Khamenei himself.
