Amir Hekmati was reunited with his family on January 18.
Hekmati was released from an Iranian prison along with three others on January 16 as part of a prisoner exchange, and boarded a plane the next day
The family released photographs of their reunion at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany on January 18. Congressman Dan Kildee, who has been in close contact with the family about the case, also met Hekmati for the first time. In a statement following the news of Hekmati’s release, Kildee said he could not wait to meet Hekmati and welcome him home.
On January 20, Amir Hekmati released the following brief statement:
“I am learning more about the grassroots support I received from ordinary people from across the world over the past four and a half years. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for everything you have done to keep my name a part of the conversation and for the kindness and support that you have given my family during the darkest period of our lives. God bless you all.”
IranWire has also conducted exclusive interviews with former cellmates of Nasrollah Khosravi-Roodsari, who was also released on January 16. The former prisoners offered IranWire details about the charges against Khosravi and his time in prison. But because we have not been able to reach the former prisoner and do not know about his circumstances, we feel it is inapropriate to publish the interviews at the present time. More to come soon, we hope.
