Going to Iran? Don’t miss the Top 10 Destinations: Qeshm

In the late 1200s, Marco Polo visited the island of Qeshm, located three miles from the southern coast of Iran in the Persian Gulf. Qeshm, the largest island in the Persian Gulf, is a free trade zone — which means it has its own bylaws and excluded from many of the economic laws of mainland Iran.

The history of Qeshm goes back to the pre-Islamic era. But most visitors flock there to witness the natural beauty and resources of the island. “Chah Kooh Valley”, a narrow valley with vertical rims featuring outlandish formations and mangrove forests are the island’s two main wonders.

Daniel and Gina from Singapore wrote on their blog “Even if you’re not a geology buff, you will still be in awe of the unbelievably stunning natural landforms at Qeshm Island in Iran. The dramatic jagged canyon ridge lines, longest salt cave in the world and the photogenic fishing village are definitely a must see!”

Adam Valen Levinson, an American journalist and producer, remarked about Qeshm’s key role in Iran’s oil industry. “Qeshm lays 75 miles along Iran's southern coast at the mouth of the Straight of Hormuz. Every day, more than 15 million barrels of oil are squeezed through the tightly regulated waters,” he says.
