Following the release of the seven young Iranians who produced a music video for Pharrell Williams’ song “Happy”, a group of Iranian puppeteers, filmmakers and artists have produced a new video for the song.
Last month’s arrest of the seven young people received extensive international coverage, including by the Guardian, the New York Times, the Daily Beast, Huffington Post and Buzzfeed. Persian and English-language social media sites were awash with messages of support and solidarity.
Although the six people who starred in the video were released on bail on May 21, the film’s director was not released until May 28. The group were abused while in detention and forced to confess on national television that they had been tricked into making the film.
