A young woman accused of smuggling drugs was executed in Qazvin, northwestern Iran on December 10.
The woman had appealed the verdict but the general prosecutor’s office reinstated it. She asked to be exonerated but that request was also dismissed. The execution was carried out on December 10 at the main prison in Qazvin, with the approval of the head of the local judiciary.
A spokesperson for the local Ministry of Justice said, “The woman was asked to carry two kilograms of heroin and six kilograms of opium. She was identified and arrested after her bus reached Qazvin and she got into a taxi. The police also arrested another woman who was waiting for her. The case was referred to branch three of the Qazvin court, where she was tried and sentenced to death.”
When asked about the appeal process, the general prosecutor of Qazvin said: “It’s not important for us that some people are against verdicts like these, or aren’t pleased with them. Why does no one protest against the destruction and decline of families and society due to the distribution of vast quantities of drugs?”
