Fars province Revolutionary Guards Commander Gholamhossein Gheybparva has warned that reformist activists and politicians are najles — or “impure individuals” — and must repent. At a meeting on December 8, the commander told his audience that Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and Mohammad Khatami would only be saved if they publicly denounced their behavior and pledged their devotion to the Islamic Republic and its values.
He also criticized prominent MP Ali Motahari, whose father, Morteza Motahari, was one of the founders of the Islamic Republic. “Certain people, like Ali Motahari, are not enemies, but they move in the same direction as our enemies,” he said.
In a statement later published on the official website for the Revolutionary Guards of Fars province, Gheybparva warned that authorities should be particularly vigilant against “seditionists” at universities, referring to a recent speech Hadi Ghaffari gave at Shiraz University.
