Videos showing a major explosion in Minab city, Hormozgan province, were posted online by locals shortly after an altercation between security forces and Baluch fuel carriers operating in the area.
The incident took place in the Shamil area of Minab on Monday. Guards reportedly opened fire on two vehicles at a checkpoint, injuring two Baluch fuel porters.
A fire subsequently broke out at a nearby police station, leading to the horrific explosion. It is not clear whether the blaze was linked to the earlier shootings. The Armed Forces are understood to have been deployed throughout the city.

At the time of writing the incident had not been covered by any Iranian media outlets or drawn comment from officials.
Like the neighboring province of Kerman and Sistan and Baluchistan to the east, Hormozgan is home to a large number of Baluchis, many of whom convey fuel across borders to earn a living.
Last February, protests erupted in Sistan and Baluchistan against the indiscriminate shooting of unarmed, impoverished fuel carriers by border guards in Saravan, near the border with Pakistan. According to local activists, at least 10 Baluchi people were killed that month alone.
