Widespread internet disruption flagged up by users across Iran on Friday morning was the result of a fire at a government data center, an official has said on Twitter.
Monitoring platform Netblocks recorded a loss of connectivity across multiple providers on Friday, with outages lasting about three hours. Users in Tehran and Alborz were particularly badly affected.
The incident was said to have been linked to a fire at the Telecom Infrastructure Company (TIC) building in Tehran.
ISNA News Agency was among those to quote Mahdi Salem, a deputy communications minister, who wrote on Twitter that the fire started at about 10am as a result of a “power outage”. Salem later wrote that the problem had been “quickly fixed” and “the backup system restored”.
