Khuzestan is the birthplace of purebred Arabian horses, but in recent years equestrian clubs and horse owners have faced problems. The decrease in competitions due to the hot climate of Khuzestan most months of the year has made these horses less visible and less viable. Food shortages and the high cost of keeping thoroughbreds are compounding the problems faced by local breeders.
