Old oak trees and unique species have been destroyed by forest fires, which ravaged through the protected landscape of Khaeez in Kohkiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad. The fires, which were finally extinguished on the morning of June 1, started in the forests of Khaeez, Gachsaran and Dashtestan toward the end of May but escalated on May 30. The forests are part of the larger Zagros mountain area, and are vital for Iran's wildlife.
