The Tolam Shahr local market was once held near a religious complex in Gilan on Fridays, but today shoppers visit the market in its location in the city near the Shakhtar River Bridge, where vendors come every Thursday. Food is on offer — in one maze of alleys, all kinds of fruits and vegetables are sold, whereas across the way at the central market, fish, rice and poultry is on sale, but shoppers can find almost anything in the huge market, which extends almost to downtown Gilan. Street performers can also be seen on many street corners.
On Fridays, farmers come from across the province to sell their goods, turning it into more than just a local bazaar, and attracting people from many cities and towns in the area.
