Mish Dagh, between the city of Bostan and the village of Abdolkhan in Khuzestan, has been designated as a protected area because of its unique ecosystem, which once served as a habitat for local wildlife. Native gazelles can still occasionally be spotted on the hills, and hunting has been banned since 2011, but the area has largely fallen to ruin due to people dumping garbage there. In turn, the municipal government has burned the trash where it has been discarded, causing further environmental damage and deforestation.
