Sadeh, an ancient Iranian festival, takes place 50 days before Nowruz, the Persian new year. The name "Sadeh" means "hundred" and refers to a hundred days and nights passing since the end of summer. People in some parts of Iran, including Kerman and Yazd, marked the holiday on January 31 this year, many of them following rituals that date back to ancient times. They gathered in groups to pray, held hands, formed a circle and danced around a fire.
