On Saturday, August 5, 10 presidents, two prime ministers, six speakers of parliament and many other high-ranking foreign figures attended the inauguration of Hassan Rouhani as he began his second term as president of the Islamic Republic. European foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini was among the prominent guests in attendance, along with international and Iranian dignitaries.
During his speech at the inauguration, which took place in Iran's parliament, Rouhani emphasized the need for further negotiations with the international community, and for the terms of the nuclear agreement to be observed.
The ceremony was the second of two official events to mark the start of Rouhani's second term. On Thursday, August 3, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei swore in the president in a ceremony that was mainly attended by Iranian officials and dignitaries based in Iran.
