Some years, residents of Tehran dread the season's first snowfall, frustrated by the trouble it causes and the inconvenience it presents. But this year, most people welcomed the snow.
After 10 days of some of the worst air pollution the capital had seen this year, the arrival of snow was a cause for celebration. People, like these families shown in Ghytarieh Park in north Tehran, came out to play in the snow, marveling at the way it had transformed the city. And for vulnerable people who had suffered the worst in the smog, and who either stayed inside or wore face masks to protect themselves, the year's snowfall was actually a life saver.
