On September 30, Iranians commemorated the national day of Hafez Shirazi. Hafez, a 14th-century Persian poet and mystic, is revered by Iranians, but also by people around the world, including famous writers and scholars. A special ceremony took place in Shiraz, the poet's birthplace. In attendance were Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati, as well as senior Iranian officials, and ambassadors and attaches from European and Asian countries. The commemorations included several speeches, including from Hafez experts and Iranian officials. The Hamavayan Ensemble, led by Iranian master musician Hossein Alizadeh, performed at the poet’s tomb.
