Iran’s National Botanical Garden covers an area of around 150 hectares and is home to 3,000 species, plants and trees. Set up in 1968, it is situated just off the highway connecting the cities of Tehran and Karaj. The garden is an important center for taxonomy and only opened its doors to the public a few years ago. Now enthusiastic guides boast to tourists that “all nature’s variety” can be found in the garden. Among the species on display are deciduous trees from Europe and the Caspian locust tree, which is native to parts of Iran.
