It’s that time of year again: the Fajr Film Festival is underway in Tehran. The high-profile celebration is part of a series of public and cultural events marking the 1979 Islamic Revolution, showcasing some of Iran’s biggest film stars and directors. The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance has overseen the running of the festival since it started in 1982. It features films for both the domestic and international markets and kicked off on January 31 with a red-carpet ceremony in Tehran.
