On January 24, Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei took the opportunity to meet with the Revolutionary Guards responsible for detaining 10 US sailors in the Persian Gulf earlier this month. Khamenei led the Guards in prayer, and congratulated them on their good work. On January 11, the 10 sailors mistakenly strayed into Iranian waters, an explanation that was accepted by the commander of the Guards’ naval unit. The sailors were released 24 hours after their capture.
