Iran’s Alvand Resort is a gem waiting to be discovered. Almost hidden about 10 kilometers off a main road, the ski resort, also known as the Dark Valley Resort, sits at the foothills of Alvand Mountain, part of the Zagros range near Hamedan. The resort opened to the public in 1985, and has grown substantially since then, with dormitories, a dining hall and other facilities being added to accommodate up to 500 tourists, who usually come for three-day winter breaks.
