This week, in an emotional public ceremony, Iran bid farewell 175 military divers who lost their lives during the Iran-Iraq war.
Thousands of people joined the procession, marching along the Basij Expressway into Baharestan Square. The coffins of the divers, draped in Iranian flags, were then laid to rest at Tehran’s cemetery for military heroes.
The Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, praised the Iranian public for their devotion to the divers, calling the Iranian people “great, loyal, and wise.” The bodies were recovered in mid-May after almost 35 years.
