Editor-in-Chief of Kayhan newspaper, Hossein Shariatmadari, arrived at a Tehran university on Students' Day to talk about a contentious issue: the Green Revolution and his view that the “leaders of the Sedition” were part of an American Zionist conspiracy. Instead, when he took to the podium, he was heckled. Tired of hearing the Green Movement branded as a group of traitors, the students turned the tables on the influential hardliner editor, calling him a traitor and an “ally of Israel” because he had given the country so many reasons to take against Iran, including denying the Holocaust. They also accused him of being involved in the interrogation of political prisoners in 2009 and called out: “Shame on you, liar, leave!” Kayhan is the mouthpiece of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, and as its editor, Hossein Shariatmadari’ is Khamenei’s official representative.
