The old bazaar is situated between two of the oldest parts of the holy city Qom, Arabestaan and Lab Chaal. Beginning at Ammar Yaser Road, the market comes to an end at an old square near Talighani Street. Shopkeepers have been selling their wares here since the Savafi dynasty (1501-1722), and, because of its proximity to the holiest places in the city, it was once famous for the sale of handicrafts, particularly during the Qajar era (1785-1925). Today, carpenters occupy many of the shops, and gold merchants also work here. Some shops are available to rent as venues for religious ceremonies.
