Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamaenei has stated that any further negotiations with the United States would be futile. Addressing a group of Iranian and foreign diplomats on August 13, he said, “Since we started negotiating with the Americans, not only have they not reduced sanctions, they have imposed new ones. We, of course, support Foreign Minister Dr. Zarif in his negotiations with the Americans, but this experience has revealed that negotiating with the Americans will not be the end of their hostilities against us. In fact, it will make them even more hostile.”
