Twitter Storm to Free Saba Azarpeik

On Friday we should expect a “Twitter storm” campaign in support of freedom for Saba Azarpeik, the imprisoned Iranian journalist.

A group of Iranian journalists and Azarpeik’s colleagues have asked Twitter users to launch this storm at the same time—10:00 pm Tehran time, 17:30 European Central time, 18:30 London time, 13:30 American Eastern time and 10:30 Pacific time. To join this Twitter campaign you should use the “#freesaba” hashtag.

Azarpeik was arrested on May 28th and has been detained for more than two months. Her conditions and whereabouts are unknown. According to reports by human rights organizations, she has been allowed to phone her family only once. On June 19 and 20 she was taken to the Revolutionary Court presided by Judge Mohammad Moghisei well-known for his harsh sentences against human rights activists and political opposition. Her lawyer was not present at the court. Eyewitnesses report that her physical condition is disturbing. Her family is banned from informing the media about her conditions but her mother wrote on her Facebook page that “two of Saba’s vertebra have been dislocated and she is suffering from a high fever.”
