Members of the Qashqai tribe are suffering from water shortages in Semirom, Western Iran, and this is affecting both families and their livestock. It is thought the nomadic people, known among themselves as "Turks" but comprising clans from a number of different ethnic origins, arrived in Iran from the 11th century onwards.
Amid concerns that climate change will mean even more arid conditions, the government is calling for greater water conservation efforts across the country. Currently, there are several major water bodies that have dried up, including the Zayandeh River and Lake Urmia. The Qashqai are now receiving water supplies from water tankers.
