Iranian photojournalist Hossein Fatemi has won the 2017 World Press Photo award for Long-Term Projects.
The World Press Photo of the Year prize went to Turkish photographer Burhan Ozbilici for his image of the assassin of Russia's ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov
Born in 1980, Hossein Fatemi started photography in 1997 when he was 17, covering politics and social events in Iran. Since then he has travelled extensively and worked in Lebanon, Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Georgia, Russia, India, Somalia, Kenya, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. His photographs have been published widely, including by The New York Times, Newsweek, the Guardian, National Geographic, TIME Magazine and the Washington Post.
Fatemi has won numerous awards including nominations for the 2016 World Understanding Award for the Pictures of the Year. He now lives in Chicago and works for Panos Picture, London, as their photographer in Iran and the Middle East. His photos can be found on his website.
