Showing solidarity is a tricky business in Iran, as Tehran newspaper Mardom-e Emrouz found out on January 17. The capital’s attorney general ordered the paper’s closure after it published photographs of George Clooney wearing a badge that read “Je suis Charlie”. The newspaper ran the headline “I’m Charlie too” alongside the photograph, leading Iran’s judiciary to take action. The newspaper published an explanation, saying it was showing solidarity with the victims of the Paris attack and that it did not support the satirical magazine's editorial decisions.
