Parliament has rejected the appointment of Fakhroldin Ahmadi Danesh Ashtiani as Iran’s new science minister. Ashtiani is the fourth candidate supported by President Hassan Rouhani to be refused the job. He was due to replace Reza Faraji-Dana, who was impeached in August, but failed to gain enough votes to win the job. Ashtiani, like Faraji-Dana, is unpopular with hardliners, not least because he was a supporter of the Green Revolution.
