On Sunday, July 13, eight people who been critical of authorities on Facebook were handed down combined sentences of 127 years in prison. The criminalization of Facebook users has been on the rise in Iran in recent months, though President Hassan Rouhani and members of the judiciary may not be exactly on the same page. On Tuesday, the president tweeted: "Filtering halts proper uses of the Internet in #Iran. #Facebook".
