Saeed Mortazavi, the notorious Iranian judged implicated in the deaths of protesters in the aftermath of the 2009 post-election uprising, has received a 200,000 toman fine (the equivalent of $60). The former prosecutor general was charged with falsifying reports and unlawful arrest for his role in transferring street protestors to the Kahrizak detention center, where many died and dozens suffered torture and systematised rape. Before his connection to the Kahrizak deaths led to his demotion by Iran's Supreme Leader, Mortazavi for years reigned as a fierce critic of the independent press, responsible for the imprisonment of scores of journalists.
