Free expression is enshrined in Iran’s constitution—except where it directly infringes on the laws of Islam or the rights of other citizens. But in reality, Iran is one of the world’s biggest jailers of journalists. Currently 16 journalists remain in prison, many of them denied a free trial and kept in solitary confinement. Despite President's Rouhani to step up Iran's commitment to human rights, journalists face intimidation, arrest and abuse.
