The annual February 11th rally in Iran, which celebrate the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, is a mix of revolutionary fervor and carnival silliness. This year, a branch of the Basij paramilitary organization, part of the Revolutionary Guards Corps, set up a “slipper-throwing competition” to take place during the demonstrations.
